Default Skip Shift

Not sure if there are any past or present Corvette people out there, but before I purchased my 996 I had an '06 vette. Vette manual transmission have what is know as a "skip shift" (1st - 4th) when traveling at slow speeds the car would not allow you to shift to any other gear but 4th. Recently while stuck in some traffic, I began manually doing similar (1st - 3rd) in the 996 to cut down on all the shifting

My question - am I doing any damage by shifting this way??

No damage at all assuming you aren't shifting into an rpm of like 1000 and even then no damage, just lugging the engine more than necessary.

Assuming you're matching revs, no damage at all. I sometimes shift 1-2-4 in town, and I just have to pause very slightly between 2nd and 4th to let the engine speed drop enough.

Lets pretty much what i was doing!!
OK good to know - Thx

Funny thing - I hated the feature on the vette, I guess because you shifted 1-4 when the car wanted me to versus when I want to

All that system did was ruin my 2nd gear syncro because it would allow the shifter to just go far enough aft to start engaging the hub and gear. Then, it felt as if it were going to engage second so you think naturally to maintain pressure on the shifter to engage when it wouldnt allow causing premature syncro wear. Bad design
