I heard that the world will end when we get to 999.
...that or they're turn the number upsidedown to 666 and start over again.

i dont think porsche will be allowed to use 998 or 999. these are both ducati designation numbers. copyright to ducati i believe.

Not only 911s get a 9xx designation... the Boxster generations are 986 and 987, there are the 956 and 962 race cars, the Cayenne is the 955, etc. etc.

Don't forget, these are Porsche internal project designations. They are not externally marketed. We the enthusiast community do that, but not Porsche, so there really is no copyright issue.

Why would they jump from 964 to 993, then skip 994 and 995 and go to 996, and then 997?
The 996 ran from 1997 to 2005. I don't plan to see a 998 until 2012 and the 999 until 2020.
It will be a long wait to see what the next model number will be.
