Exclamation HELP!..cannot fill tank with fuel? Fuse?

Hi.

Had a radio put in.

All was well prior to the radio work....could fill the tank every single time perfectly.

Now, I get about 0.3 gallon in and the fuel comes back at me.....I originally thought it was the gauge...but now I think I just cannot get the fuel in....HELP.

CAR=2002 Turbo, Manual, with Pioneer radio now...had PCM.

Thanks!

JCB

Yep...did you check the fuse? That would be the first guess.

TIA all.

On a Boxster fuse E6 is for a flap in the fuel filler and the cell phone connector under the radio. If that fuse blows then you can't get fuel in. I suspect that when working on your radio the cell phone connector was shorted and blew the fuse. It is 7.5 amps. Guess the turbo is the same.

There is supposed to be a few extra fuses in the box. If not it is a standard automotive fuse that you can buy anywhere.

Yeah! You guys and this forum/site are just superb.

In the box, extras...7.5A....voila...I got gas and am good to go.

Yep, the radio installer must have shorted it somehow.

I assume Porsche 7.5A fuse are the same as everyone else's. ;-)

Want to find a good set of extras....

Wish it was...if this happened away from Rennlist...gosh knows how much I would have spent at a shop/dealer...perhaps if on the road a truly expensive repair woul d have been done...

This is not uncommon with Boxsters. The cell phone connector has exposed pins and if the correct pin touches metal it blows a fuse and then you can't fill up.

Starting in 2003 Porsche put tape on the connector so it would not short out. If the fuse blows again you might want to use tape.

This is a picture of a 2003 Box.

Again, thanks all. My dealer (sales, but a person with over 12 prior P cars to his name and the local PCA president) thought the tank gauge needed to be set on PAS.....so, this thread should be put into the 996 FAQ list if possible...IMHO. I was pretty scared/upset/nervous as TT's can use gas quickly.....

Default Easy fix once you realize it

it cost me $800 at the dealer to fix. I thought it was the fuel sending unit initially and recalibration of gauge. No I could have just changed a fuse. E6 that controls the fuel flap was the issue.

check E6 fuse (I also have 2002 manual turbo 996 and this is the fuse #)- it has to do with the metal on fuel nozzle and the car opening the vent valve!
