Are these headers, and the aftermarket counterparts, interchangeable?

many aftermaret headers are, not sure about OEM's. maybe check the online PET to see if there's a different part number between the two.

don't mean to hijack the thread but are the cats the same for the 05 and the 99? some tell me yes, other says no.......

Yes. All 996 NA headers are interchangeable, 98-04 (and any 996 sold in 05).

Is it worth the change? I have a 3.4L and my father in law has a 3.6L GT3. He told me I could use his stock GT3 headers if they fit.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I don't think the GT3 headers fit, sorry. I could be thinking about the turbo though.

The GT3 headers will not fit on the M96 head. What does fit and works well is the 997S 3.8 headers. They have significantly larger ports, I run them on my 3.4....
