Installed the B&M SSK over the weekend. Wow what a difference!
I have the Schnell shift linkage but opted to stick with the stock linkage b/c I noticed on a couple other Porsches that the after market linkages seem to make the shifting notchy. Using the stock linkage (coated with some thick rubber material) the shifting is still very smooth. I know the stock linkage looks very cheap and that it could break but as long as I'm careful it'll be ok. Any other opinions on the shift linkage?

Congrats...you should be ok with the OE shift linkage. Now you have to supplement the SSK with a sweet sounding exhaust and head for the hills.

There are many methods to reconnect the metal ends of the cables to exactly where they where they were located on the spring captive blue and black cable connetors after a short shift install.
Trial and error is the way if you do not use one of these methods.
But, if you do it the Porsche way, then you do not remove the cable connectors from the cables.

I got one of the Schnell shifters, and found the surface finish on the ball ends to be very poor. I worried about it wearing out the plastic sockets. I sold it to a friend and got a B&M for myself.

While we're here, question - I know the SSK is a DIY, even though such things intimidate me. If I decide I want to have a crack at it, is the linkage replacement also a DIY for a (very) novice mechanic? I think I'm going to order my B&M and billet linkage today
996 TT, if that makes any difference...
Thanks,
Justin

I put both on a Boxster. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index...=0&#entry11426
Read the link. I first installed the EVO shift linkage on the oem shift. Then when that was perfect I installed the B&M. I used the locking bridge to make sure the shift linkage was in a perfect position before the B&M install. There was no trial and error. A perfect install of both products.
