While we're here, question - I know the SSK is a DIY, even though such things intimidate me. If I decide I want to have a crack at it, is the linkage replacement also a DIY for a (very) novice mechanic? I think I'm going to order my B&M and billet linkage today 996 TT, if that makes any difference...
Thanks,
Justin
You would have to be able to make sure that the length on the cables is not screwed up when you replace the linkages. Usually the cable length is adjusted on these cars by fixing the shifter in position with a <$10 plastic retaining tool and then connecting the linkages to the cables. The problem is that the plastic tool will not fit on the B&M shifter. So, it would be simple for you if you buy the tool, put the linkages on first using the tool on the stock shifter, test it, then install the B&M shifter. Personally, I wouldn't bother with the linkages, but if you want them (and you want to do it yourself), put them on first.
