Default Lightweight Flywheels

I was looking into lightweight flywheels. Fidanza is available for ~400, AASCO is around ~800... Fidanza only lists 02+ applications. The question is, if the 99-01 flywheels are different why is the OEM part the same? Would a 02+ Fidanza fit a 00 996?

Why is the OEM flywheel part the same for 99-05? How does it bolt up to both types of engines?

http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/...Tclutc_pg3.htm

Also, Aasco lists the same flywheel for 99-04....

Maybe you should try GMG....they make a flywheel and clutch combo thats lighter and they claim NO chatter like the other lightweight flywheels.....

http://www.gmgracing.com/porsche_drivetrain.shtml

they list different flywheels for teh 3.4L and 3.6L as ther ARE different and are not compatible. One bolts with 8 bolts and one bolts with 9 bolts.

Can anyone explain the reason the stock OEM flywheel seems to be the same over all model years?

Its not...you have the wrong part numbers. OEM is different for 3.4L and 3.6L.

The 3.4 and 3.6 have the same number of flywheel bolts (8) and is the same part (996.114.012.03) it is only the GT3 motors that use a different number of flywheel bolts (9) and a different flywheel (996.114.012.50, dual mass unit, the single mass unit is a 964 part).

I think the 993's have 9 bolts. Also GT2, turbo and GT3.

Didnt someone here order a lightweight from Fidanza and it was the wrong one?

These guys got the wrong one from Fidanza...seems they dont make one for a 3.4L.....So its odd if all 996's use the same flywheel....but the lightweight ones from Fidanza dont fit a 3.4L....

The 3.6L one from Fidanza is for a turbo, not the M96 motor. This is something Fidanza doesn't advertise. According to the Porsche PET the flywheels are the same for MY99-04.

Hope this helps.

^ 300zxtt...the M96 motors (3.4L, 3.6L in the carrera series) are all 8 bolt flywheels. bottomline.

The turbo, the GT3, the GT2 and probably the 993 which are derivative of the GT1 racing block are 9 bolt and thus take the different flywheel.

i'm assuming many companies (especially import ones like fidanza) just goof up on advertising because they think the 911 turbo is just a 996 with some uber made tyte greddy turbo kit slapped on y0 and havn't done the adequate research into the model range
