another oil thread
FYI, my local costco (Edison, NJ) has Mobil 1 15-W50. 6qt/case for 29.16/case + tax.
this thread is not intended to be a oil debating thread, but apperently costco doesn't sell 0-W40.

Ladies and Gentlemen:
The recommended motor oil viscosity for the 996 cars are:
0W40
5W40, and
5W50
Other viscosity ranges are NOT recommended (please check your ownre's manual)
The mechanic at the Sears is totally clueless, and his recommendation is nothing but an unmitigated bullsh**
The neglcted fact is that the motor oil for the 996 engine is not exclusively for internal engine lubrication but also for other hydrolic components such as variocam. The recommened viscosity (low W/0-5) is exclusively for proper function of these compenets, particularly for those of you who have Variocam Plus. This issue has been addressed in the latest issue of Excellence magazine. You may even void your warranty if you use other viscosities.
