Guess what happened on the way to work?
Pothole fun... Three hours for a tow truck in Jersey City, NJ... first time I have ever damaged a rim....
Getting rim replaced under insurance as well as full alignment. Seems the snow tire is fine, hoping all is well with suspension... a brief visual inspection showed everything looked good.
Anyone ever hurt the suspension over a pothole?

in MA... if the potholes injures your car, the city is SUPPOSE to take care of it... i wouldn't know b.c i drive an SUV during the winter time, and the summer.......... over there....

Good luck chasing the city / state.
I just tried that very same approach in Dallas, TX area. No dice here - Texas Dept. of Transp. has explicit immunity unless damages are caused directly by a state employee or equipment being operated by an employee and the action that caused the damage must to be warranted as an unlawful act.
In other words, I think it means 'screw you, we'll keep the roads in whatever state of disrepair we like'

Not really. Tires are pretty flexible. A big pothole will damage a rim (or more) on a lot of wheels - the larger your wheels, the less protection your tires gives your rims from damage.

Seeing that bent rim makes me sad, but welcome to the world of low profile tires....bent rims are not at all uncommon on cars that sport these wide tread/low sidewall tires.

Ouch..sorry to hear about that. That is why I usually wait until late spring to take out my 996. The potholes are usually all filled by then.
I am sure that your suspension has not been affected by it.

I've had suspension damage from a pothole in Nashville, TN. The car was a BMW 540 with the 6 speed and sport suspension (which used 17x8 wheels with similarly low profile tires to the porsche). The front strut was bent, wheel bearing damaged (according to dealer) and TWO wheels were bent. The bent wheels were obvious, and in fact one was bent bad enough that it would leak flat in about 20 miles when you drove on it, but not when parked. Total damage was $2500.
Back to the point. I filed a claim with the Tenn. DOT., who told me four months later that when the road was under construction, the construction company was responsible. I thought this was the beginning of the run around, but in fact the construction company had someone out to see the car and wrote me a check in less than a week.
Incidentally, insurance companies regard this type of occurance as a collision (I collided with the road?), so filing a claim will likely affect your rates. What a scam.
All in all it was a big hassel, taking several hours of my time, but some time was necessary to get the car fixed regardless, and a little extra time was worth the $2500. Good luck on your repairs.
