Default A Pillar

Want to hardwire my radar detector and want to remove the A Pillar to hide the wires. I know I have seen a post on how to remove this (either here or on rentech)... have been searching for the last 20 mins or so, but just can't find it. Can anybody help me.
thx

I ran wires in both A pillars without removing the trim. One for the telephone mic and the other for my Garmin I5 GPS power cord. I just used a hook tool like the one in the picture to push the wire between the windshield and the trim and then I just removed the side vents to run the wires behin the dash. Took me all of 10 minutes. If you decide to try this method, make sure you use a bench grinder to dull the point of the awl or else you might scratch or cut the leather on the pillars.

I'm doing this... but where it says "remove the side vents forward", I seem to have an issue... screws are out, but it seems like I have to use a LOT of force... not very comfortable doing that... what am I doing wrong? Any tips/suggestions??

there are 3 screws. Did you remove the one hidden behind the switch? I had to wiggle the vent to pry it off the tube.

For what its worth I hard wired my v1 to the dome light and whenever I set the car alarm the v1 shuts off...much easier then going to the fuse box

I have a 996 cab too

Ditto on the hardwire via the dome light for my V1 radar on my 02 c4 cab.

I also, added a USB power plug via the fuse box, so I could power up my Garmin Nuvi 360, which I have above the driver side air vent. Good place to put the unit as its not in the way and it sits nice and tight.

Joe - Can you give me some additional info (and maybe pics) of how you added a USB to the fuse box.

I would like to do something different with my Tom Tom Navigation unit. I love the Tom Tom but hate the dangling cord plugged into the cigarette lighter. I go to clients houses almost every day so I use the Tom Tom most days.

Thanks!

Sure thing, I found this DIY site for my NUVI, shouldn't be any different for any powered USB port required systems. Some ppl do the same for their IPODs. For my ipod, i chose the phone power adapter from Becker if I remember correctly.

Joe - Thanks for the link. This looks like it could work for my Tom Tom also.
