Technically you could get the proper size allen key. But the hartop tool is not pricey at all and can be picked up at your dealer. If you are a PCA member, get another 10% off.

If you have metric allen wrenchs you could just take the cap off the cover and find out which one fits. I would guess it is around a 6mm wrench, but would have to chech to be sure. The Porsche wrench is just an allen wrench with a plastic cover. The plastic cover is flat on one end to make it easier to take the caps off the covers.

It's a 6 mm hex. I never use the tool except to pry off the caps.

I literally just 24 hours ago just removed my hardtop. I am going topless and there is a difference. Mainly noise.

Yeah I was looking at the tool and it is pretty much what people say...just an allen wrench.

also...it wasnt hard as I thought it was going to be to remove!

It's part # 996-563-413-01. I got mine from sunsetimports.com for $22. If I had to do it over, I would just get an allen wrench, it smaller and takes up less room in the glove box. The plastic prying tool isn't critical.

Yup same here, when I picked up the car, I asked the owner to install the hard top for me so I can take it home with me and not have two trips. That was in October. So I figured it was enough time with the shell on...time to experience this baby as it was intended!
