arr0gant, you seem a little worked up over this topic for some reason....

but i will take the bait and play along... watch this thread over the next 24 hrs, I am going to find a bunch of links and post them here... again, i am only relaying what i have seen lately as someone that loves the look of the 996 c4s and has been shopping the market... stay tuned, or i will definitely eat my words if the market has changed since i last looked...

as you know, sites like kbb.com or edmunds.com dont really mean crap in the Porsche used market... my sources are the high-line dealers and autotrader.com, cars.com, etc.

Not worked up so much as I don't wanna see the OP sell his car for 1 PENNY LESS than he should!!

Blue books DO mean crap and are a good starting point, as I said before.

Remember, miles are the single biggest factor that affect the price. Make sure the cars you look at have close to 20k for a good comparo.

Don't mind Gant. His good intentions are there but he just really has a passion for the C4S bringing in max value on the open market. For some reason he thinks the car holds value like a 993 Turbo S

Gant, You need to read the OP's post. He isn't trying to sell anything. It is his friend that is trying to sell the car. And as others have said, asking price is one thing, selling price is often something completely different.

Points taken. I can't tell you what it will sell for, but I can tell you what they are listed at in the open-market and what I expect it will fetch.

Either way, I am trying to give the best "selling strategy" to the OP's friend. That's all.

I didnt even look at cars.com, ebay, or some of the other sites out there...this is all just off autotrader.com

these will all sell for $60k even
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...0&cardist=1360

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...00&cardist=805

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...0&cardist=1200

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...00&cardist=737

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...00&cardist=849

And these will sell for less than $60k

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...000&cardist=16

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...=&cardist=1189

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...=&cardist=1355

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...00&cardist=951

On the other hand, there are only ten 1998 Carreras available on autotrader w/ less than 30k mileage:
$77,000 Highest price
$58,900 Lowest price
$66,035 Average price
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/search...=&keywordsfyc=

All in good fun....

Well, first i'll take OUT the 2003's, then I'll take the one out with almost 30k miles.

That leaves the rest that you showed at an average of $65k with the lowest being $62,888 and the highest being $66,900

Now, I am assuming that you grabbed the LOWEST-end ones listed all over the nation. This leaves other ones with the same year and similar miles going all the way up to $72k or so.

As you see, all you did was show the LOWEST-prices ones. I say the person trying to sell should price it above the lowest ones that you sent. This would leave his price around $69 or $70k. That is the price I said he should try to sell it for in the beginning.

NOW, if you see a 2004 for sale with close to 20k miles for UNDER $60k, even close to $56k, I would LOVE to see it. Otherwise, I think he should look for close to $68 or above.

I hate to break up this fun party but I am a BUYER!! Yes an active BUYER with CASSSHHHH money. The problem is that I hold this cash money close to my dog food bowl. So I am truely looking for a C4S and it will be an 03 or 04 (I really don't care) and it will have a TIP but my budget is between 45-50K just for the car. Then in most cases I will have to service, put tires on, replace a few parts and get it appraised for insurance purposes PLUS the tax and license not to mention the SMOG fee...... and that will get me into the mid to upper 50's.

Just my two cents worth. ....... and may I have a penny back to go towards the new purchase?

Anyone who believes differently should pull down the KBB and Edmund's tradein price for their car, and then take their car to their local Porsche Dealer and ask for a price quote. If it's anywhere near the KBB price, I'd be very surprised.

i give up....

i listed 10 c4s cars (8 of them 2004, 2 2003), that could all be bought at $60k or definitely less in the second set of cars... a couple are even listed below $60k... some i showed have 13k miles, some 23k miles...but none with high miles... not sure why your 20k mile marker is so magical...

i love the look of the car and i may get one of these or a tt someday... but i have to tell you with no offense intended, that i think your price expectations are high... i figure that i could sell my 98, add $10k and have an 04 with low mileage... says a lot for how these cars hold their value over time...

Well it least says how well the 993 has held its value over time. Unfortuately for 996 owners, the 996 doesn't seem to be doing nearly as well.

ok. enough is enough. let's go straight to the horse's mouth on this one-- famed porsche author and expert, Peter Morgan. http://www.petermorgan.org.uk/valuation.html
for 25 pounds, within 2-3 days after sending him detailed info on a specific car (including 7 photos), he'll come back with his valuation. we can all pitch in on the $50 or so bucks. of course, we'll have to retain a separate expert to compare the used market in england vs the us, and probably retain yet another expert to decide whether we should retain a british or american expert in the first place, but since we all obviously have nothing to do, should be fun!

kidding aside, Excellence mag (4/07) says a 2002 C4S "is worth bteween a low of about $39,962 and $45,436 for a car that's in good condition. An excellent example should bring $60,825." they said an 02 4S with 14,960 miles at $59k was a "good purchase considering the low miles...." don't know whether an '04 would command more than $10k over that-- likely not. my amateur bet (based on nothing more than looking at used market in my spare time) is on very low $60's, at most.

Sounds EXACTLY right! That $40k to $45k GOOD example would have $60k miles NOT excellent car.

$59k is a VERY GOOD price for a 2002 C4S in EXCELLENT condition with 14k miles. Add another $3k to $4k for a MY2003 and another $3 to $5k for a MY2004.

I got my "lightly optioned" 2002 C4S with 17,5k miles for $56.5k, A STELLAR deal. I've only met one person since who got a better deal on similar car. He got it for $55k about 3 months later (into winter).

I shopped the entire USA market for 4 months and that is the BEST DEAL I found. $49k for the 32k miles 2002 C4S with almost EVERY OPTION turned out to be a flood-car and was too-good-to-be-true.

I was willing to travel ANYWHERE and went half across the country to get it. So, I speak from experience. If ANYONE ELSE can tell me of ANYONE who got a 2004 with 21k miles for $56k or even close, I'm all ears!

GOOD-FREAKING-DAY!
