40th Anniversary Edition Questions...
I'm new to Porsches and I've been doing a fair amount of reading. I'm looking for a 911 I can track occassionally, but use mainly on days it isn't raining or snowing, but to cold to ride my Motorcycle.
What do I need to know about the 40th Anniversary model? Any concerns or specifics I need to be aware of? Areas of high wear or maintenence?
I'm looking at two right now, one with the optional fixed rear spoiler, and one without. The one without has higher miles (50,000) and is selling for about $50,000. The one with the fixed rear wing is $63000 and has 19000 miles on it.
I appreciate all info... I was considering TTs and GT3s as well, but reality is my track car should take up that space, and this car will be more street/daily driver oriented.
Thanks!
Mike

IMHO, the 40th Anniversary is a great 996. It comes standard with the X51 power kit (345 hp) and a limited slip diff.
The only real downside is that these car were often delivered with a ton of options, so it may be a little heavier than the average C2.
BTW, the 40th did not come with a fixed rear spoiler (to the best of my knowledge). It is possible the owner added if after purchase.

The 40th An is a great car. It has a lot more than just the X51 engine and LSD. It also came with a slightly different version of the M030 sports suspenion, Bi-Xenons, Polished 5-spoke Carrera alloys, natural leather (full leather) interior, sport seats, unique C4S style front bumper and painted center console. I don't remember if the hi-fi or Bose stereos were standard, but I've never seen one without Bose. Most also had common options like a CD changer and rear window wiper. The last options were power seats, replacing the standard sport seats and Nav. Sport seats are common on non-Nav cars. You can pretty much expect a Nav car to have power seats.
I would not be concerned about the additional weight from the additional equipment. Keep in mind it also get more power and a better suspension that more than compensate for the extra weight. If you are really picky about the weight and want greater performance, then look at a GT3 instead. If you are looking for a car that has everything and would make a great daily driver, then the 40th An is a great choice.

theres a lot of various 996 s for sale. Plenty with the power kit, Plenty with different interior colors and optiions. Anything else could be added if you wanted to do it later.
As with any used car, you sure should pick a car with low milage.

02 Carrera's comments are spot on - it's a fantastic car. Also has PSM, GT3 sills, perforated natural leather shifter & handbrake, and alcantara headliner. They all come in GT silver, which is an expensive ($3K?) special order paint.
Unless I'm mistaken, it's the only way to get LSD coupled with the 345 HP motor. I won't give mine up until I can get into a 997 GT3.
