Default Finally Dell, some interesting fault data for you...

Just saw this on the 997 board, and thought it would make interesting reading here as well, based on the ongoing engine discussions.

Warranty Direct have just published a league table based on 450,000 insured vehicles in the US and UK. Porsche did not score highly.

What was striking was the number of engine based claims - 19 each year for every 100 Porsche policies sold in the UK, 36 for every 100 in the US.

Compare that to BMW, Jaguar, Mercedes

They have an info button that gets into what counts as an "engine based" claim.

http://www.reliabilityindex.co.uk/ma...rchtype=engine

Take a look around the US and UK stats, makes interesting reading, especially comparing Porsche with other manufacturers in the list.

Look at the reliability index for US cars, I think only Volvo is worse that Porsche

Of course Dell, I do realize that we have no numerical data on how many Porsches are covered, etc etc...

In fact, in the UK, Porsche are #1 on the worst list!

Rank Car Make Index Rating

1 PORSCHE 257.97
2 JEEP 250.25
3 SUBARU 203.05
4 LANDROVER 191.9
5 JAGUAR 167.6
6 ALFA ROMEO 164.76
7 AUDI 156.91
8 SAAB 141.02
9 RENAULT 129.4
10 CHRYSLER 122.47

The UK Reliability index takes into account all factors of a repair, the cost of the parts and the frequency of failures - The Average of all cars is 112 which means that if the figure for the car you are looking at has a higher than average index (118) it indicates that that car is less reliable than the average, if however there is a lower than average index (60) the reliability is better.

Changing my outlook on this board when it comes to stuff like this

Think of it as the "new" Dell

Besides, for every WORST list you find somebody will find a BEST list. It's a no-win battle.

I prefer to just eat the popcorn and sample the beverages while the debates rage from now on, thank you.

You can hardly blame Dell. After all it's obvious you only started the thread to "stir the pot".

I notice the engine criteria include the dreaded rms failure (!) Probably more of these than slipped sleaves.

No, just playing to Dell's professional strengths with some actual numbers

And all light heartedly of course, just pulling his leg

Nothing to get your 'knickers in a twist' about.

of course I may choose to stuff this down someone's throat next time they criticize my choice of Land Rover for my 4x4......

What in the Blue Hell is going on with my "pouncing" skills these days?

I'll be back one of these days. Until then, time for the gentle Dell persona
