Hello everyone; long time lurker, first time poster. I wanted to start by saying this is an incredible source of information (and entertainment) - thanks - and I hope to be able to contribute in the future. I do not have a P-car yet (former 944 turbo owner many yrs ago), but will be looking for a 2000-01 Cab very soon (next month or so) and I will post pics as soon as I find the right car - trust me, the pics will come the day after it's home, don't want the newbie thrashing!
In the mean time, has anyone had any recent experience with Jenkins Auto Sales in Pompano Beach, FL? They have a car that may be interested in. I searched, but did not find much, and what I found was old. Will do a PPI for sure if I get to that point.
One more question, anyone know of a good indy in Oakland County Michigan? When I lived in Chicago with the 944, I had a lead stealer tech that did side work out of his house/friends garage, and I was able to assist and learn - that would be ideal.
Cheers

Welcome.......I say go for an 02 if you can........it'll save you wanting to do an 02 facelift ($5K +) and the strong engine...... although .2 liters is not much, but it's noticeable .........

DFC, welcome aboard! I'm a newbie too. This is great place. You are smart to join prior to purchasing. You will really enjoy working on your new car, it is an incredible piece of engineering.

Thanks for the welcome! I have been lurking daily for months, this site is addictive, figured it was time to join.
Porsche_Smile - would love to go up to the 02, just not in the cards right now with the significant price jump. The 02's in my target range seem a bit suspect. I drove an 03 C4S after an 01 cab, and you're right - it is definitely different, maybe my next one!

Welcome-joining first, and doing your homework is half the battle! I had been a R/L member, but posting on the 993 Forum. About nine months before I bought my 996, I started hanging on this side of the tracks, to soak up all the knowledge I could before purchasing.
Good luck in your search!

Sup man, always great to have an aspiring 996-owner hangin' around before they buy. I think that's the smartest way to go. It's the people that join after having their car for 6 months and they come to bitch about one problem or another....so GREAT to have you.
My pops lives in that area, I'll ask him if he's ever heard of 'em.

Welcome and good luck with your search; the search is actually one of nice parts of the 996 experience.
You'll be fine with a 00-01 Cab. Sure the 02 has a larger engine and a facelift, but the 997 had another facelift, so should you burn all this cash just to get a slightly newer and stronger car? There's always something newer and better out there; stay in your price range, buy wise and don't go to your financial limit. It's always fun to do some mods afterwards; it keeps the car new for you and special.

DFC, welcome aboard and it is great to have you here as a paying member. I cannot address your first question however to find a local indy, I usually contact my local PCA chapter and ask for references.
Here are a few in your area you may want to reach out to.

DFC - Welcome to the best Porsche Forum on the 'net! Good luck with your search!
You may know this already since you admitedly have been "lurking," but one of my "un-official" responsibilities on this Forum is to make sure "newbies" don't go too long without posting a pic! So, I'll be watching for your pics.
(Note to self: Add DFC to the "Newbie - no pics" list!)
BTW - just in case you didn't know it, the "pic thing" is all done in fun.

DCF...Welcome to the club. I am a new member as well and like you l love this site. I agree with the others and keep to your budget. My first P car was a 2000 Boxter, I then upgraded to a 01-cab and recently up-graded to a 04-C4S. This hobby is a blast, but can get expensive. Good luck on your search.
