Default Value vs cost of PCO

I am confused about the Porsche certification pricing. I assume that certified cars are priced higher than non-certified cars at the dealers because they have been inspected and have a warranty. When I bought my Boxster in 2004 they added nearly $3K to the price even though the car was advertised as a certified car. Is this normal policy or did I get hosed? Would it be better/cheaper to get an uncertified car at a Porsche dealership and buy a warranty online?

Price + Tax + Title + Licensing is the norm did you pay an additional $3000 on top of this and if so what is it for? Prices on fees vary from dealer to dealer...

The advertised price was $32,260, they added $2,640 when I said I wanted the certification warranty.

Jim,
What was the mileage on the car when you purchased it? And when was the CPO expiration as advertised? From my own experience (not with P-cars), CPO is an added incentive to buyers and is usually "rolled over" with the car.

Car was bought 6/2004 with 15K miles. CPO ran out 10/2006.

CPO should add no more than $1500 to the price of the car. It is always better to get a CPO car and $1500 is a bargain if it's a new CPO warranty starting the day you buy it.

If you buy a porsche from a non-P-dealer, Warrantydirect.com is a good bet. You will pay between $1500-$2000 for a similar to CPO warranty. They will pay a Porsche-certified tech to work on your car.

You can also pay around $3000 for a warranty that will cover everything bumper-to-bumper. Things a CPO won't even THINK of covering.

CPO should have been part of the purchase price. Then if you wanted extra coverage after 10/2006, then I can see an extra amount being added. When is your current CPO due to run out???

To clarify, for example; if you're buying a used P from a dealer and the car is NOT certified, it should cost no more than $1500 for them to add a CPO warranty for another 2 years or 100k miles. If they can't certify it, for any reason, skip the car.

And to further clarify, you can buy a certified used car from Porsche and elect to NOT purchase the CPO Limited Warranty, which costs $1549, is administered by PCNA, and is transferrable to another private owner.
Once a car with a CPO Limited Warranty is purchased by a entity other than a private individual or a Porsche dealer, the CPO Limited Warranty is null and void.

Abolutely correct. When I bought mine last year from Isringhausen, it was CPO'd - which added "around $1500" to their selling price. They were unwilling to sell it without the CPO - and I'm glad I got it with it. Mine's certified until '09. For peace of mind, it's well worth it.

The CPO ran out 10/2006, the original warranty ran out 10/2004. The car was listed for $32,260 and was certified by Porsche before I bought it. Anyone know where an extended warranty can be bought for a 1996 993? I have not been able to find a warranty for a P-car that old.

No way anyone will warranty a P that old. www.warrantydirect.com

Besides, you're prolly on the wrong board. You may get idea's in the 993 area.
