I've had my 2000 C2 for three months now (bought w 35k miles, now has 38k miles) and notice that when sitting in traffic (+-5 mph) or stopped and shifting from neutral to 2nd, I hear a light THUNK noise from the tranny and the car kind of jerks very very slightly... Sometimes, but rarely this will happen when shifting into 1st from a complete stop. I've read a number of posts here, and it seems this is fairly normal behavior for the P car. I'm a little **** retentive and I'm wondering if I'm just worrying for no reason, or if there's real cause for concern.
Also, 1st to 2nd shifts don't seem quite as smooth (2nd feels a tad notchy) as when I first purchased the car in Oct of 2006. Every other gear feels perfect. I'm in LA and do a 60 mi drive on the 405 (read=bumper to bumper) in stop and go daily, so I do a lot of shifting in and out of 1st to 2nd. STOP, 1st, shift to 2nd go to 20 mph, back to stop... Repeat.
I have the Certified extended warranty until 100k or 2 years, so I have a while under warranty in case something goes terribly wrong.
So - what's the concensus?
1. It's a PCAR... and that's just the way it is... NORMAL.. stop worrying and enjoy!
2. Time to adjust the ole shifter cables
3. Clutch is going bad?
4. Tranny is going bad?
5. New tranny fluid?
6. Bad synchros in 2nd?
7. Other ideas?
This is my first Porsche, so I have no frame of reference.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations/comments!

I've got a 2000 C2, also. It doesn't do that. I'm not a tranny expert, but I don't think anything on your list would explain both the notchiness and the clunk, so it may even be two separate problems, both resulting from 6 years of creeping along in LA traffic. Anyway, it doesn't sound right. Good luck with it!

It has not gotten any worse and it does it most of the time. 1st and 2nd gears only. It happens right before I enter the gear,
Sorry I don't have an answer, but at least your not the only one

Try holding the clutch down for a couple of seconds before shifting from neutral to first from a standstill. If that "cures" it, it means that the synchros are just aging normally. The pause allows the gearbox to spin down before engaging a gear. As for neutral to second, I'm completely confused when you would do that, but you may need to match the revs to the forward speed more precisely. Gearbox synchros do get notchier with age, and start to need more careful rev-matching. If it continues to bother you, or seems to be getting worse, you may get some help under the CPO. If you're in Woodland Hills, I'll guess you bought your car from the Auto Gallery. Try Don or Jeff at the service desk - they're both good guys.

The clunking is the abrupt stop of the input shaft and clutch disk (they are mated together). Usually caused by syncros being worn, not normal on any car unless it is un-syncronized in my opinion.

After messing around with my shifting habits (being more gentle, and a little quicker between them), the problem seems to be minimal at best. Thanks for everyone that contributed to this post.
I may have the shift linkage adjusted too.
If there ARE any further issues, I'll post a follow up.
Thanks
Mike
