Unhappy I hit a deer!

I was driving around midnight and out of nowhere comes a deer. She just stood there looking at the beauty of my Porsche (okay, maybe it was the headlights in her eyes). I hit the brakes and turned to the right, but couldn't manage to avoid her. I hit her rear hind quarters probably at around 20-25mph. Now I don't know if German engineering is this good or if I just got lucky, but instead of smashing up my front end and coming through the windshield she was instead lifted up off the car and spun around. The only damage was two chips out of the left front headlight assembly! Talk about breathing easy again. The deer took off after that. Now I need to find a new front headlight, but it's sure better than what could have happend. If anyone has a headlight assembly for the left side of a 2000 C4 Cab 996 I'd be interested in it. However, if you name is Sean Banerjee, I'd rather you just keep to yourself.

PS - You can see the deer fur still on the bumber.

It shows that Porsche brakes are strong and effective When i used to live in Solon (OH) near Cleveland, there were many deers around and every day I heard of someone hitting one. They usually destroyed the car upon impact. Good to hear that you and your car are both OK.
cheers,

Good to hear you and your car escaped major damage. I have a spare stock unit from my '99 (non-litronic), although I'd prefer to sell it as a set.

Can't tell from the pic if yours is litronic, so PM me if you're still interested.

Glad to hear you are okay! Sounds like your car did pretty well.

I hope the dear wasn't hurt badly, too. Maybe that will put the fear of Butzi in it!

sigh of relief there, as most outcomes from deer contacts are much worse.

Congrats - you got away pretty clean. I grew up in Michigan and know plenty of people who have had major damage done to cars much bigger than a Porsche after hitting a deer.

I think that was a lot of my luck. Being in the Porsche so low to the ground I just kind of scooped the deer up and spun it around. Had I been in the MDX I'm sure it would have killed the deer and done a lot of damage to the car.

Actually if I remember right, in OH, it used to be legal (not sure if it is still now or not) to take the deer home if you hit it and kill it on the spot with your car. There was a story of a guy who hit a deer with his car, was very upset upon seeing the deer still standing in front of his totaled car, he then got out and charged on the deer, wrestled it and killed it. Man, I was shocked when I heard it in the news...

My bud hit a bird once and the bird impaled itself in the front grill of his car. However, it was impaled with the head and the beak pointing out!

He had no idea he had hit the bird, but he said he sure got a lot of disgusted and dirty looks from people as he pulled into a shopping mall.
