Default '99 996 pros/cons/other ?

Hi,
I've been looking for a 993 and may have found one....but/and found a '99 996 Yellow/black 6spd 18's 47k miles which appears in really nice condition (ppi tbd ofcourse). 2 owner , clean carfax. asking $30k obo.
I know I have to decide 993/996 etc, but forgetting the 993 for a sec, how does above deal sound (I'm in NE).
Pros/cons with 99's (built '98), etc ?
Thx!

not sure if you have seen a thread by Gatorone2001...also debating b/w a 993 and 996 (sorry, cannot post links yet)

Confession: I am in a similar situation. Was all set on 993 ('95-'98) but had a change of heart (and mind) after reading above. I will let the experts chime in about the price (as I am still a noob here and to Porsches). Best of luck!

It was an available option only on the 1999 model year Carreras. After that it was replaced by PSM.

price depends on where its coming from and what options and the outcome of the PPI.

If a dealer with some warranty pretty good price, but private you may have room to negotiate. If you need a place to get good PPI, Farnbacher Loles in Danbury is one of the best, and dealers in Greenwich and Fairfield. I am in ffld county so if you need a shop recommendation let me know area, maybe I can help, but no real expert myself....

996s are indestructible. I have a fair amount of track time in mine and its rock solid as the day it was new. With proper maintenance they can last a long time.

PSM was standard in 99 on the C4, and it is very likely it has PSM, most dealers did opt for it, as it is defeatable

I have a 99 996 with 67k and it is a dream. Would not trade this car for any 993 with similar additions. I added evoms intake and custom exhaust and it looks sleek, sounds mean and is rock solid.

I was refering to LSD, which was an option on the '99 996 and came standard on the 40th Anniversary 996.
