Default If you bought your car from a Porsche Lease Return....

What are your experiences in terms of overall quality? Did you have any issues with the car? Where there things you needed to repair?

I am considering purchasing a 996 4s or TT and want to know if it is wise to buy it through Porsche Lease Return (I have a broker who buys directly from the auction). I am a bit timid as I don't know the quality of the vehicle and a PPI is not possible as it is purchase from the auction.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Regards,

Kris

I bought mine from a dealer (not a Porsche dealer), but it was a lease return and auctioned. It only had one key and no floor mats, but other than that, it was fine.

A lease return car could be mint or totally trashed. It has nothing to do with the fact that it was leased but how the leasee cared for it. Kind of like rental properties.

mine was leased. it had a couple of scratches in the interior door handle, needed 15k service, had rms and few rattles. with one year of factory warranty left, virtually everything was fixed for free. i replaced the door handle myself. car was pretty clean and came with all papers and keys.

i would not hesitate in buying a lease but make sure it does not have excessive miles which would indicate it was driven lots and probably driver didn't care much as it was leased. generally, lower mileage means better condition that is stored over winter.

do a PPI make sure it has warr. and you should be good to go...... but just because it's a lease doesn't mean that it's bulletproof......

My car was originally purchased new on a 3-year lease from Advantage Porsche. At 3 years they took the car back and certifed it when I bought. Because it came back through the same dealer, I am fortunate to have all the history with the car. The saem may not be try for an auction car.

i don't know if i would ever trust a p-car from an aution......can't do a ppi before you bid on the car......but i think if you get one from the same dealership that leased it out, there's advanteages like the history.......

Depends on the car. I see lease cars as well as cars owned outright in our porsche club.....

I know that dealers can do post sale inspections on cars bought at the auction which are probably more thorough than any PPI. If you go through the broker, make sure they do the PSI (post sale inspection) for $125 and request a copy of the report. Not only does the PSI cover mechanical parts, but also inspects the frame and unibody parts. Auction cars are not only lease returns, but aged inventory, as well as repos.

Mine had a loose battery (clunk when turning), loose screw for the speaker (rattle), short shifter, repainted front bumper and stock deck that didn't work correctly because an aftermarket one was installed.

Default Bought on EBAY Lease Return

Simple story. Saw on ebay, had 10,000 miles on it. Bought it in Texas, drove back to L.A. Car was checked out before purchase and I ran the VIN through local P dealer. 4 years later I'm still happy. And the options I got were more than I expected.

fact is, more than 65% of Porsches Purchased in N.A. are either leased or "ballooned", why do you think there are so many on the road? This number fluctuates, it is around 80% in my area, but nationally, it is 65%....having said that, people that purchase these cars tend to treat them quite well, all in all....like nick49 said, has nothing to do with how it was financed.

I bought my '02 996 C4 Cab after one year of a prior lease with 10K miles. The leasing agent (who bought it on auction) correctly insisted it be Porsche CPO'd prior to re-leasing and we spit the cost ($2500). It turned out the car, even though it was out of state, had been purchased at my local Porsche dealer! Check the service history through the dealer with the VIN. Mine had small things fixed (speaker, guage face) and an RMS repair. When I recently replaced the clutch they found the beginnings of an RMS leak, sealed it with the 997 part and there was no cost to me.
