My car is a 2003 C4S. I got the Schnell CAI today. It installed easily, as advertised in about 15 minutes. There is a hose loose now. It used to have a fitting on the OEM "snorkel". I think Loren referred to it in his air filter DIY as the sucking jet pump connection:
"Loosen the hose clamp on the throttle body and remove the connection of the sucking jet pumps (not present on early cars)."
Is this a problem? I think I may have spotted it taped out of the way with electrician's tape in someone's post about his CAI.
The loose hose is overlapping the red of the schnell snorkel.

Well, I was waiting to hear from someone who has this mod with the extra hose. I don't want to screw anything up by driving it if it is a problem.
I'll let everyone know, though. I'm not expecting any performance improvement, just a throatier sound.

I decided to go out for a drive. Any increase in power is too subtle for me to notice. But it sounds great at full throttle. Reminds me of the intake noise of a friend's 73 Vette when the secondaries opened. The sound at part throttle/while cruising is unchanged.
No CEL or adverse affects from having the "sucking jet pump connection" (whatever that does) hanging loose.

JimW - I think thats a hose that only the tiptronic cars have. Though I don't have a tiptronic, I'm pretty sure it still needs to be hooked back into the orange thingie. FYI...take a peek at this link for the directions on installing the K&N intake - steps 28-31.

Here's a pic of an evo intake on a tip (notice the hose going into the intake)

It looks like I will take the Schnell off now. I really appreciate your researching this point for me. I wouldn't have guessed it had anything to do with a tip.
Thanks!!
Thanks!!

The Schnell intake came off and the stock intake is back together. I think it was under 10 minutes this time. I may look at the K&N or EVO, since they have a provision for a tip car.

I put one on mine yesterday it sounds great. I have a tip but I do not have that little hose. If there is any HP increase it is 2-3 you would never feel that you need a dyno. Well worth the $100.

So does the kit work on Tiptronic cars or not? I have an 01 C2 Cab.Tiptronic and was looking for a good CAI. Is this kit pretty much the same as the Fabspeed but about $100 less?

Actually, I have an EVO CAI on mine that was put on sometime back, and it has the hose connection for the Tip, but it's got a rubber plug on it becaue I have the 6 speed.. I guess back then, the kits were pretty much interchangeable with the exception of the hose connection for the Tip.

I just ordered the Schnell CAI. I asked the tech about the Tip hose and he said they supply a cap to cap it off. It is pretty much the same design as the Fabspeed but $100.00 cheaper. They said you dont use the hose with the CAI on their system.

I also have a Schnell CAI, actually I got mine from Jim above (original poster), Thanks Jim... I believe the Schnell's design is the same as the Fabspeed, actually not sure what is the real difference though, Oops... The fit and look is nice. I have it for a while now and so far so good, without any CEL or other issues (knocking on wood
). I love it. On Fabspeed website they show you how to install that little extra hose, I think you just drill a little hole for it and stick it in, not too bad. Good luck with your new CAI and enjoy...
Cheers,
