charge o mat question

charge o mat question
i recently purchased a new battery trickle charger (porsche's charge o mat). this thing plugs into the 120 volt box and into the cigar lighter of the car. a red light comes on at the transformer for awhile but soon after goes out.
i want to believe that the light out thing means that the battery is fully charged and when additional juice is needed it will kick on and do its thing but i'm not sure if this is the case or if i have a bad connection in the plug that plugs into lighter. if i unplug it at the lighter and replug it the red light returns for awhile.
does anyone have any experience with a charge o mat?
merry Christmas to all.

I had the same question when I bought mine.
If your battery is fully charged, the light will not come on.
A good test... Unplug it, turn on your climate control and radio on for 10 minutes (with the engine off). Then plug the charger back in and you'll see the light come one.

I have the same Porsche OEM trickle charge and YES you are right, when the light goes out, it means the battery does not need anymore help. Mine would go out after few hours and then when I take the car for a drive and later comes back, I would plug it back-in and the red light always turns back-on for a while and then shuts-up. This is good to avoid over-charging the battery. Merry Christmas
