Top reasons you DON'T drive the 996
I was inspired by oreganet in an earlier post, where he said some great things about how great his car looks, and how great it sounds, but he didn't want to drive it on this beautiful day because he'd have to wash it again.
Since we're a four car family, I have to make a choice every time I go to the driveway on which car gets driven, and here's my top three reasons I DON'T drive the C4S:
1. Too many cars parked in front of the garage. This is probably the worst. If I lived in Texas, I'd have a 5 car garage and all would be well, but here in So Cal, I'm stuck with 1 car - and guess what gets parked in there?
2. Car is TOO DIRTY. Anyone with a black Porsche knows how much work it is to keep it looking tight, and mine gets pretty ratty sometimes. I may decide that I would be disrespecting Porsche owners everywhere if I take it out in that condition.
3. Home Depot Runs. Now, if it's something small, say a lightbulb or a can of paint, I'm all over it. If it's a new ladder or 12 feet of PVC, I'll drive something else.
It should be noted that I never DON'T drive the C4S because of weather (it's a hoot in the rain), and I jam my kids in there however necessary.

I think the only way I don't take mine out is if five or more people want to ride in the same car. Rain, Shine, Snow, whatever, I drive it. I don't believe in garage queens.

Nice day gets the GT3 unless it is SO FRICKIN NICE that I am forced to go topless in the CAB! Other than that, Cayenne gets used for trips to Lowe's, Bad Weather, and driving to and from the college since I would prefer none of my students to see me rollin' in a GT3

Beause my car and I live in the city, where the streets are crowded with inch-along rush hour types, potholes and pedestrians, and there's not enough time after work to get far enough out of the city to open it up before I need to be home with the family.

If I have to park it in a place where I can't see it or it may get dinged. I also don't drive in any bad (or potentially bad) weather. With the "slicks" I have on it really is a safety thing. Also if my wife wants to go...she will NOT go in the P-car?

Real reasons for not taking out the Porsche:
i) >30% chance of rain (unless it's getting towards the end of the driving season and the car is already dirty)
ii) need to give > 1 person a ride somewhere
iii) need to go somewhere the car might get dinged.
