Had enough...
Man there has been a lot of flaming the last few days on Rennlist between fuels, engine failures, and such. Lets gain our composure, I thought this was an adult forum and I am having my doubts (I am probably one of the youngest at 28). I left flat-6 because of this. I am probably the most out-spoken person myself with my hard-headiness but on this forum I hold out. I have read a ton of people belittling each other claiming they know more than someone else, I have received several.
What happened?
Anyways, I have owned my 996 for over a year and a half and there is a burning question in my mind, what in the hell does MY mean? I have tryed to figure it out over time but I have not been able to figure it out.
Just trying to bring some love back to Rennlist, peace in the middle east

Sorry, I don't mean that. I just couldn't resist the opportunity to be a smart-*** and counter your "can't we all just get along" message.

Tippy - I agree with you to a certain extent. I guess that when you have a bunch of guys (and gals) that get together to talk cars, you will almost always have some bickering back and forth. I just take most of this with a grain of salt and let it slide.
While there are VERY FEW people here that are intentionally malicious, there are times when the “debates” get heated and, unfortunately, degrade to a personal attack mode. I guess it is easy to call someone an idiot when you are not looking him or her square in the eye. That is one of the reasons I like to throw out some humor in a few of my posts. It seems to take the edge off the situation somewhat in some of these little “battles for supremacy.” When the “battle” seems destined to continue, I will offer “free popcorn” and sometimes “free drinks” so the rest of can have something to munch on while we sit back and watch the battle.

BTW - The moderators on the Forum keep a pretty close eye on this type of thing. If someone continues to remain in "attack" mode, they are given a "vacation" from the Forum. In the 18 months I have been involved with Rennlist there have been 6 - 8 guys that were sent out on "vacation" (temporarily banned). One guy came back from "vacation" and cleaned up his act for a while, but about a month later, he reverted back to his old nasty habits. He is now Permanently Banned from Rennlist.
Hang in there and enjoy the Forum. The benefits far outweigh the negatives.

I'm glad you brought up the 'MY' code (though I was able to figure that one out on my own some years back), because it reminds me to inquire as to the 'Mk' designation. I think I get that MkI stands for the 1st iteration of the 996 (1999-2001) while MkII stands for the second iteration of the 996 (2002+). Is this correct? If so, what does 'Mk' stand for?
(PS - I'm an idiot for even wondering this, but it's nagged me for ages)

Edward,
Mk (MK) stands for Mark. Often it is added unofficially like in the case of the GT-3 to differentiate between two distinct models, but Porsche do not use this form of designation. They use Type numbers.
It's very English to Mark things. Spitfire MkI to XXIV (Mk1 to 24). You can use Roman numerals or numbers. The Ford GTs were known as MkI, MkII, MkIIA, MkIIB, MkIII and the MkIV (originally known as the J-car).
Ciao,
Adrian.
