i am planning to mount my hardtop next week. (yes, what a great year with top down)
do i need to take the smart top chip out? i don't want to engage the softtop when the hard top is mounted. so when the hardtop is mounted, will the softtop been "disabled"?
anything i need to do to protect the softtop? it will be down for 4 month, and i've already have some crease on the top and back window.

I would defintely contact Wilhelmy-IT for that answer. I haven't ever taken out the smartop unit but I also make sure I never even test to see if the top would try to operate if I hit the button.

When the hardtop is installed there is an interlock engaged at the front central latch. Wilhelmy would be nuts to have overridden that logic.

Hard to over ride it, without actually clipping some wires. putting hard top on is a two man job, unless you have the hoist.... I place a soft clean towel between the folds of the rear window, after I give it a good cleaning, inside and out. I have had excellent results with this approach and the rear window is in great shape.

What do you use to clean/preserve a convertible top ?
Mine has the glass window.

Before you mount the hardtop, make sure that you lubricate the windshield header gasket, and the rear engagement pins.
Use silicone spray on the header gasket, and lithium grease on the engagement pins.

I know putting the hardtop on is a 2 man job...how about removing? I am thinking I can do it myself. Unlock both sides and I am strong enough to lift it up and out...I think!
When we placed my hard top on the car was detailed so the top was clean...but I did not place a towel between the folds. Maybe that is a good excuse to remove the top again and put it back..get some pratice doing it.

I just installed all the hardtop mounting hardware (used Porsche "retro fit kit" 9With all new "screw type" hardware). The only thing I can not figure out is how to remove the old Banonet sytle mounting pin w. lead to read window defrost. I can take the bolts of, yes but how do I gain access to remove the old wire lead and install new?? I'm stuck...
