Wow!!! 3K for a clutch job. That's highway robbery. I just replace my clutch on a 02 Carrera 2 with 46K for $1400. It's silky smooth and light afterward and the shop guarantee the work for 1 year. I guess it's good to have a close & good relationship with your shop.
prior to buying my car, i checked around to get a feel for how much clutch and brakes and rotors cost.... much to my amazement, i was quoted 1800-3500!!! all within a 30mile radius. im in ny so the stupid quote of 3500 was manhattan motors in the city. man... talk about stealing. sheeesh.
my advice is to shop around if practical. dealer cost can vary so much... the clutch kit cost approx 500 from dealer, or you can go to sunset. then you can try and have any indy shop do it for 1k+ in labor if there are no other practical dealer alternatives. my local dealer, pepe in ny suburb of nyc, gives a discount of 10 or 15% to pca members. you might wanna see if some stealers in your area does same.
i got lucky when i took mine in for rms on my cpod c4, i spent the 500 to have it replaced at their suggestion. they didnt charge me for labor as that was all included in the rms warranty repair.
1800 to 2000 sounds reasonable to me all in around nyc. good luck.
