Default Head Unit Selection

So I'm looking for a new head unit for my 996 and have narrowed it down to the Alpine 9861: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-AK3RGT5...0&I=500DVA9861

or

the JVC-KD-AVX2: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-AK3RGT5...50&I=257KDAVX2

What do you guys think?

I have had both and went with the nakamichi this time- looks great in the dash like a stock unit and sounds great too- not alot of bells and whistles however.

I really want to be able to play DVD audio and at least be able to hookup an iPod.

I always thought Kenwood's sound is one of the best ever. I dont like JVC, I would go more towards the Alpine if deciding between the two.

I just put a 9857 Alpine in my 996 (free iPod cable with purchase). All in all it is pretty sweet although the iPod interface takes a little getting used to. I didn't see the need for DVD so I didn't look at 9861. What I can tell you is that everything went together very smoothly, screen glare is minimal and the bluetooth integration works perfectly.

Does the Alpine fit flush? I had a Pioneer AVIC-N2 and hated how far it stuck out. (like an inch or two)

Also, is DVD-audio in the car worth it? people are always saying how great it sounds but will I be able to notice the difference in a cabriolet?

I have been looking at the Alpine 9857 for a while. I haven't seen the free cable offer yet. Is it offered from Alpine or a store promotion?

The front edge of the trim ring is exactly flush with the other interior panels. If I can get a decent pic, I'll post it.
