Default What would you do...

If you were kinda growing tired of a 2000 C2 Cab.
Had some options.
1. Roll into a brand new 2005 Elise for about $7k out of pocket.
2. Roll into a brand new 2007 Cayman base optioned for about $14k out of pocket.
3. Keep the C2 (has extended warr. til 2010 so no big worries) and try to fall in love again.

Which trigger would you pull.

Any inputs appreciated.

Phil,
Thanks for the feedback. My thoughts on the 911 route were that I would not gain much until I roll up to the 997 and the $'s are just a bigger stretch than I want to take. A 996 coupe, I would miss the pop top. An afordable Cab, nominal difference. Oh well, the delimma continues.

how about a front conversion...and a lot of mods inside and out??? you will keep the best of both world until you make the move to the 997.

the elise will be like driving a go cart....if this is what you want? it is fast and drives and handles great!
a cayman...I don't know...you need a black one with 20" rims and red calipers and brown or black interior to make it a nice transfer!

If you would miss the "drop top" that should take the base Cayman out of the equation. If you are seriously considering a Cayman, then consider a '02+ 996 coupe (or cab). Personally, I really like my coupe, I have never been much of a "drop top" enthusiast.

Have you thought about a Targa? There are a few Targa owners on the Forum and they seem to LOVE them.

Go for a drive with a group of Porsche enthusiasts.
Doing that always freshens my enjoyment of my car.
Attending a PCA Concour Event, or participating in a PCA Autocross also re-energizes my affair with my old '99 Cab.

+1! 10K out of pocket, and you can hang with turbo's. Elise while a fun car, usablitiy is hardly there, I know I can barely fit in one.

My buddy's Elise is a blast to drive. If you plan on spending a fair amount of time at the track the Elise is a great choice (obviously). On a day to day basis though, not so much IMO.

You currently have one of the nicest, most pleasent to drive and amongst the best looking cars on the road. If you are growing tired of it and it no longer excites you I would advise counseling.

Seriously, keep it and find something more utilatarian for a daily driver. My DD is lifted Jeep Cherokee that I also use in the mountains and deserts, my wifes DD is a Lexus RX400H. I've had my Carrera Cab going on 4 years and my wifes had her Boxster going on 5. Every time I drive the Carrera I experience near the same excitement as I did the first time I drove it. My wife says the same thing. You can tire and become bored with the best of anything, being creative is the key.

Aggreed 100%, my DD is a 265 hp maxima, and that thing is a bore compared to the Pcar. Lazy in the turns, quiet exhaust, auto tranny, boring! Nothing better at the end of the day than hopping in the Pcar and hearing the growl of that PSE.

Have you any interest to mod the car? Adding touches here and there make you love it all over again. And if you want the biggest kick in the but to fall in love again so lock it up for a week and rent a $100 a week econo-box car from a rental agency and ONLY drive it and nothing else for the entire week. Then get back in your 911 and you will fall in love again and realize what you have.

1) No way
2) No way
3) Maybe

Possible option 4 for me would be to see if I could steal one of the few remaining E46 M3's. They are a steal right now if you can find them. That might be a bad option for you since it looks really like you're looking for more of a track car. So with that why not put the 7k to roll up to the Elise into performance upgrades to your C2?
