Default Dunlop winter M3 or new 3D?

A number of winter drivers have reported terrific results with the Dunlop M3 in snow and on ice. The M3 is being replaced with the 3D (M3's are still available). Has anyone heard how this new tire compares to the M3? From the looks of the tread pattern the M3 might be better in deeper snow and the 3D better on ice. Pics of the tread patterns below (courtesy of Tire Rack website - thanks). Thoughts? They're actually for my CLK, my p-car goes into hibernation for the ugly stuff

I know the M3 is a proven and good winter tire...I'd personally pick those up until there's more data on the new model.

Good thought, thanks.
For others considering these tires, in the pics the M3 is on the left.

I'd probably pick the M3s if you live in a very snowy area, and the 3D's if you live in the northeast where it tends to freeze and sleet more. Frankly, I really don't think that you can go wrong with winter tires because they are SO much better than all season and summer tires that you'll think you're driving on studded tires.
