what are those plates with the holes for? the two plates welded in between below the loops for the lap belts?

Back brace. I use BK back braces against the seats on those. I'm going to only use them on my side from now on, they really limit how far back you can move the seat and the taller instructors have a lot of trouble squeezing in with the brace on the passenger seat.
