Default Widest front tire/offset question??

First off let me say that I've looked through the archives and couldn't find an answer to my specific question (though I did find a lot of other useful information about wheels and tires) Can anyone tell me if I would be OK to put 245/35/19 on a front rim that is 8.5" wide with an offset of 45mm? The recommeded size is 235/35/19 from the shop that I bought them from but I really go with Bridgestones new RE-01R tire and the front only comes in the larger size of 245/35/19. Do you think I'll have to worry about rubbing or anything serious. I read one post in the archives where someone stated you could actulally fit a 275mm tire up front on the right rim. Thanks for the comments. Just want to make sure before I spend $600 for a set.

The 245/35 is very close (closer than the 235/35) to the factory size of 225/40 in diameter. It's actually about 3mm smaller in radius, so that should help. The offset is going to move the outer edge of the rim outboard 13mm vs. the stock 8" with 52mm offset. You'll have to look and see if that'll work. So I'd say "yes", but it'd be cool to hear from somebody that's actually tried it.

Russ,

I currently have stock 18" Sport Design II on there. They are 7.5" with ET 50. The wheel offset calculator at 1010tires.com say I'll have 8mm less clearance on the inside and the wheel will move outwards 18mm. Keep the comments and thoughts coming. Thanks

I remember seeing some cars from Champion Porsche with their wheels and 245/35/19 tires so I would have to say it will fit. Give them a call they should have the proper offset specs.

I hope it goes well. I wish I had first hand knowledge to share.

I run 18x9.0"/18x11"0 CCW Classic race wheels for track wheels with GT3 sized 235/40 and 295/30 MPSCs. The front offset is close to the 50mm that the stock Carrera wheels are (figure .5" in and .5" out). I would suggest calling john at CCW and he can give you the actual # for the offset. If your car is lowered I am pretty sure you are going to have problems with 245/35-19 on the front. It isn't the width, it is the height. I am awfully close on the inside. I am pretty sure this tire would rub the bottom of the spring perch and the fender if it was on my car. I would recommend to look at a 245/30-19 instead. From all my measurements, I believe it is possible to run a 255/35-18 in front without rubbing if the tire has a stiff sidewall on a 9.0" rim. A 275 is not going to happen without modifiying the front fenders and going to lower offset wheels.
