How good are the 996s for daily drivers? I can only afford a 1999-2001. Im having trouble figuring out if I want to spend the money on a new car with a warranty or a newer Porsche...I have a 944 turbo now as a weekend car but I want something more refined and newer for a daily driver…I live right down the street from where I work so long commutes are not a problem. How many of you use your cars for daily drivers? Also…is it possible to do oil changes yourself?

I have been using my '99 Cab as dd for almost 3 years. Excellent creature comforts and do have a few twisties I can take home. Usually get 20 mpg no matter how I drive. Oil change is no big deal Apple

I have an 04 996 as my daily driver. I get pissed off when I have to drive anything else. It isn't the most practical thing all the time, but I did not buy it to be practical. If you like it buy it and drive it every day. I would not change the oil myself for a number of reasons. The most obvious one is that I have no where to do it at my house. There are others as well. I am sure someone qualified to chance their own oil would be fine doing it.

I drive my '99C4 as a daily driver and love it. A friend on mine drives a '01TT as his daily ride. Changing oil is so easy to it yourself. It also helps if you have access to a lift which I do.
Call around to some of the shops in your area to check out prices.

They are great daily drivers, even more so than my 993. I'll drive it up until the snow flies in December.
At least the oil change is easy on a 996. I never bothered to even try on the 993. Way too much work, and more oil to catch. You need a second elbow on your arm to get to the 2nd filter. If you don't have a place to do it, that would be a reasonable reason to get it done.

I've been driving my 996 (which is my only car) daily for six years. Recently I bought a motorcycle in order to weave through the brutal traffic, but the 996 is highly recommended as an all around daily vehicle. The more you drive it the better it treats you.
