I drive mine all year round in Minnesota, snow, ice and all. Better than an SUV except for ground clearance.

Daily rain or shine. Hate to drive anything else...even if I have to go to home depot!

I've gotten caught in the rain, but don't make a habit of "leaving" when it's raining....I take the truck instead..

if you do a search you'll find all kinds of topics with "issues" to look for on carreras... 2 of the biggest and most common are Rear Main Seal leaks and coolant system/tank leak.

I commute 40 miles each way in SoCal in my '02 C2. It's a great daily driver, and merging onto the 405 always improves my state of mind in the morning

Potential issues that you should do a search for:
- RMS failure. General opinion seems to be that regular use reduces the likelihood of seals failing
- Front control arm replacement
- 10k life for rear tyres goes with the territory

I personally think a 996 stinks as a daily driver - UNLESS - you have roads on your way that let you enjoy the car.

Sitting in traffic, rowing the 6 speed, being in a Porsche, is not all it's cracked up to be. You're worried about parking it, worried about some *** on a Harley clipping your mirror, and you've got no space to make a grocery store run.

Unless you're a single guy who lives in an area with great roads and little traffic, I'd use something else.

It's some hills in northern Nevada, taken by one of the marshalls in May during the Neveda Open Road Classic . I guess we were doing around 115mph at the time

Race decals look cool, so I took some more photos the next day when I got home to Redondo...

To bring this thread-jacking loosely back onto topic, how many other daily drivers could do this? Maybe M3 and M5, but not a lot of others.

I have a 2000 C2. Here are it's current roles:
Daily driver.
Road-Tripper.
Track Car (DE only).
Speed Demon.
Sunday Stroller
Grocery Getter (um, not a Costco/Sam's car though).
Fiancee/Wife Hauler (no kids yet).
Pet Transport.
And a few others I'm sure.
I don't have any reservations or regrets using this car for everything - it is pure joy to drive. I didn't get it to look at. I got it to drive.

Wow, can you get both your Fiancee and Wife in the Porsche at the same time? Or do they have to take turns?

Default I use mine every day

2000 C2, bought it with 38K purchased 17" wheels and put Dunlup M3's on for the winter. It now has 50K in 15 months of driving. Use it as often as I can.

I have changed the oil and filter, the air filter, and fixed little odds and ends.

It's just another car as far as I can tell, but one that's a lot more fun to drive.

I'm with you right up to the last part. To me, it's still worth it. The rest of it is pretty much psychological. I have to row the shifter in my Mini, too, but the reason it's not as egregious is that I don't feel burdened by its wasted potential. The Porsche tortures me in city traffic just as you say, and then pays me back tenfold on the rare occasions I can let it loose. Kinda like my wife, come to think of it...
