"996" or "911" on back of car (rather than Carrera)?
I have seen 996's with "996" on the back of the car or "911". I know that the Millenium Edition came with 911 on the back, but what are the other reasons someone may have this? Does it designate anything special?

The only 996 that came from the factory with "911" on the rear lid was the 2004 40th Anniversary JAHRE edition. These were standard 2WD Carrera coupes with C4S front bumpers, polished 18" Carrera wheels, X51 suspension and the X51 engine upgrade. These cars only came in 1 color: GT Silver Metallic.

My '99 Carrera Cab had the factory model designation "Carrera" delete as an option. So I ran around without anything back there and thought that a matte black 911 in script would be great on my A/S engine lid. I found one that was Genuine Porsche and put it on. I think it looks great and haven't seen another like it.

Actually, the 40th wasn't the only 996 that didn't come from the factory with the "Carrera" designation. As noted by Signal, the Millenium edition (2000 C4 with every option), which I have, also came from the factory with the "911" designation instead of "Carrera."

911 on back / 40th anniversary
I like the idea of putting 911 on the back like the 40th anniversary. My cab looks somewhat similiar. My next project will be the euro style turbo look bumper, then the EVO supercharger.I am loving what I am hearing about it. Thanks for all the responce. Check out the new pics..
