Hey all,

What kind of prices are we talking about here? If someone has a price list of recent hi-line averages, please pm me with it, or send to jbripps@aol.com.

I hear that the 84-89's are fetching great prices at the auctions. Would love to know what '02 coupes are generally going for at auctions.

Best,

Jon

With an 84-89 you are probably better buying from an enthusiast, as you stand a better chance of getting a car in good condition and a feel for the history of the vehicle.

Hi again,

I'm actually looking to sell my '85 targa in order to get the '02, and I heard that Manheim prices are high at this point for the 84-89 models. I guess there is a general higher demand, even at the dealers who stock those models.

ciao,
Jon

I bought my p-car from the orignal owner, however I did buy my last two corvettes from a no name dealer who bought all his vettes at Manheim. Both cars were great, i had one for 7 yrs and 90k miles and one for 3 yrs and 30k miles and both were mint, reliable, no problems.

I think it all depends on your trust for the dealer. I'm sure the car is fine and most dealers are getting their used car inventory from auctions. I would do a ppi just to be safe. If that comes back ok, you should be fine.

Here you go, directly from Manheim's nation-wide MMR:

Condition: Above Average Below
Price: $44,206 $39,584 $34,962
Mileage: 25,539 42,658 59,777

Total Sold: 9

So in the last week, 9 were sold (02 Carrera 2 Coupe) and these were the averages and what they sold for. A real gem would probably pull another $3k over the "above average" figure if it had say 15k miles on it.

There are brokers who specialize in finding cars for folks...these brokers attend the auctions and buy cars for other folks...usually for about $1,000-1500 for the "service". I was going to use one of these services in my area but then found the car myself. The preliminary arrangements I made were to contact the broker, give him the make/model/mods of the car I wanted and my top line...then he'd attend the auction in Los Angeles and bid on the car using the criteria I gave him. He furnished me with a listing of all the Porsches that were going up for auction that round...and the list was very extensive with everything there from newer 997s down to the older '99 996's. Some guys on this board may not like that sort of arrangement...but if you don't have the time or opportunity to attend the auction, it may be a viable option for you. The inherent problem is that you don't have the opportunity to go down and kick the tires, sit in it, pet it, or see how it strikes you...or get to see if there is there any "chemistry" with the car. I don't recall how the PPI thing works, but I would imagine that there's a provision for an conditional sale pending the PPI or other inspection. Spending that kind of money would mandate a clause like that in there. These auctions are on the up and up....and are regulated, so I would imagine that there are contractual protections for the buyers.
Good luck in your quest. chuck

True, but you have to remember that these guys have the access to the auction that we don't have. Mannheim is a dealer only auction.

What a garbage ad:
The C4S is essentially a Turbo, without the Turbo engine. Aside from the incredible handling and braking performance provided by the Turbo wide-body set-up, it will hold its value very well as do all limited production Porsches. This pristine and limited edition (only 1200 produced) C4S has been prepared by Porsches own "Exclusive-Programme", which means that a team of factory specialists have selected the best options, including full leather interior, Bose CD sound, litronic lights, etc.

Every C4S has full leather, and exclusive program doesnt have anything to do with Bose or litronics

That being said, it looks like it's in really nice shape and I do love the color!

Got mine from Manheim two years ago. I went with my dealer and he charged me $1,500 for the service which included title and all paperwork. We checked out cars (measured paint thickness, started the cars, etc.) the day before and morning of, won an auction and then I went and test drove it to make sure there were no problems. I probably saved around 10% and it was a lot of fun. The only problem was that the car only came with one key. Otherwise a great experience.
