Back in a limited sense for now. Getting closer. Not too many boxes left and maybe another couple weekends worth of work and we will be "settled' in.

Hit me up in email when you find something out

Dell - will that front lip that Jeff bought (the wrong one) fit on my '04 stock front bumber cover? He ordered 996-505-986-92 instead of the 996 595 986 92.

Well,

I tried to order part 996 595 986 92 from Sunset, they do not have such a part in their catalog. Nor do they have a 996 595 986 92 with either the 01C or 00 suffix. They only have the one I ordered 996-505-986-92-01C for the MKII splitter and the original smaller 90 degree splitter 996-505-986-00 for the MKI. I must be missing something here.

Is there anyway you can double check your order or spolier to validate the part number? Depending on who you purchased it from, it sould be on the original receipt or in their customer database.

Any additional help would be greatly appreciated!

I think I am slipping in my old age. The part number is 505 not 595. Where in the world did I get 595 from anyway? So you DO have the correct part number in yout posession. I think I might know what your issue might be. What front bumper do you have? The standard bumper or the Aero (GT3MkI) front?

Since Sunset does not carry the cup splitter, I called Porsche Motorsports and they have the 996-505-986-91 cup spolier, but it was designed to fit the MKII club car only and will not fit the MKI. To my surprize the cost of the cup splitter was around $100. Unfortunately I will have the same problem with the cup splitter as with the MKII OEM splitter that I orignially purchased using 996-505-986-92-01C. Also, they do not have any part number 996-595-989-92.

The hunt for an explanation is still on.....

there is no need for further explanation without pics from you explaining why you think it is wrong.

.......then there is something else we are not seeing. did you read the thread I posted for you over at Renntech? I have the MkI front and the "505" MkII splitter and it looks great. There are pics in that thread as well.

Dell,

Yes, the thread you sent is where I got the original part number. But for some reason, the splitter sticks way out towards the front of the car at the corners, almost as much as two inches or so, exposing the original mounting lip and holes. On your car, and the yellow coupe, it appaears to follow the contour of the bumper very nicely, which is why I thought we may have two different parts. It is however quite feasible that they are the same parts. I though about making a series of slices in the mounting lip of the splitter so that I could "bend" it into shape, but didin't want to rig it to look unprofessional or sloppy.

Or maybe it's just that the spoiler I have is not as well shaped (i.e. factory defect) as the one you received or as the one on the yellow 911.

Do you have any closup pics of the splitter at the corners? Perhaps by looking at how yours looks upclose I will be able to determine if I have a splitter that is a bit out of shape, which would explain the difference, even though we have the same part.

From the pic of the yellow coupe, it appears to flow very nicely with the MKI bumper, which is not the situation with the splitter I have.

Perhpaps you didn't check out the Renntech link,
You have snip off the ends of the of MK2 splitter for it to work with MK1 (99-01 GT3) bumper.
Perhaps this is what he is saying when he says it sticks out too far.

I am in Salt lake City this week at an IT conference. I'll take some pics of the splitter when I get home on Friday and post by Saturday.

The splitter I have must be the same one you have, based on the identical part numbers. Perhaps I just need to form it a bit to the bumper. It just doesn't look like yours, on your Arena Red Cab, or like the one on the yellow MKI in the first post. Maybe I'm just making too much of it and should just work with it, but based on your description of how it fit nicely to the contour of your bumper, I was expecting mine to be a better match, with of course the exception of how it mounts on the sides of the front bumper.

In response to the other post, I realize that the ends do protrude into the wheel wells and have to be trimmed before/after fitting.

I hate to keep bothering you with all of this, but I appreciate the help.

Boy, it sure would be nice/easier if someone manufactured a MKII splitter that fit on the MKI bumper!
