I do. No problems. You can also use the 15W50 in warm climates with no problem. Everyone here knows my position on the Mobil Water (0W40). 5W50 is the minumum to use in wam climates for a 996.

If your in Canada you can now get Mobil 1 5W-50; it's a better oil than the casttrol synthetic... castrol synthetic is not fully synthetic like Mobil 1.. it's a good oil.. I"m not knocking the castrol but the Mobil 1 5W50 is superior.

After reading the link you provided, I'd say that more than just their marketing is working.

Why not use a good synthetic like Redline or Amsoil? It only costs a few bucks more and for a yearly change the additional cost is nothing. I used to use Mobil 15-50 in my 1999 and kept getting a pressure drop when hot. I use Redline 5-40 in my 02 and it is much better. I've heard that the Amsoil product may be better yet.

sorry 1999 that link shows 10W-30 motor oils.... nobody here uses 10W30 oil.... ? there was another article posted here that tested all these oils including 5W50 and the winners were Amsoil 5W40 and Mobil 1 5W50 and 5W40.... I'll try to dig it up... but I believe all the amsoil and Mobil 1 oils completely outperformed the Castrol 10W60 !!!! Castrol is not a premium synthetic oil...
