Hi.
Some of my equipment does not match up with VIN for the car.
I am looking for alternative places to find it.
Does anyone know?
Besides the obvious locations, dash, firewall, doors, how many other locations are there on the chassis or elsewhere ?
Is there a place where it is hidden ?
Thanks

It looks like you bought the car that most were telling you NOT to buy from your first post. Sounds like you have a real project on your hand.
Sorry, but I have to ask......What exactly are you trying to accomplish with finding VIN placements? Sounds like you aleady have a pieced together car.

Hello.
LVDell , you are very observant .
Here are some mandatory pictures .
I did buy the car, had a new rebuilt engine installed by Porsche of Arlington.
Driving it for the past two weeks, surfing this board, getting some knowledge and ideas.
The car is working out great so far, by the way, sans minor imperfections.
The interest in VIN is for my security system / keyless entry.
I had ordered a new key and a blank from Sunset. My local dealer could not program it or cut it.
Claimed the security system in this car does not match my VIN.
"vehicle CLE information not matching the VIN displayed. "
Any ideas of how to program a key to security system of unknown VIN ?
Thanks in advance.
Lenny

The VIN of the car is in several locations: etched on every piece of external glass, front corner of the dash, in the engine compartment, on the option decal under the trunk lid and on the chassis under the trunk lid at the back firewall (there is a window to look through to see it), etc. If the ECU or stereo were changed (i.e. car was a theft recovery) then it could lead to your problems. If the these components were changed, you are pretty much SOL. If they match another car's VIN, Porsche can't release the codes for security reasons to you because they are for another owner. You can always order new components for your car and they will be coded correctly.
FYI, I had a G35 Coupe and mine had a VIN label on every body panel (same as my Maxima and Miata): front bumper, rear bumper, both front fenders, hood, both doors and the rear decklid. None of those cars had it etched on the glass or plates welded to the chassis like they are in my 996.
