Search "radar detectors" on this forum. Then search "radar detector reviews" on the web.

I had one Passport and one V1. Sold the V1 on this forum, and now have two Passports, one for each of the P-cars . Couldn't be happier. Definitely had my bacon saved several times.

I'll second the Bel RX65. Used it on a cross country trip and it saved me many times. I have seen just as many reviews rate the RX65 better than the V-1, as the V-1 better than others.

I run the Passport SRX, V1 and Bel. I'm going to install the K40 next weekend.

I wouldn't be paranoid if everyone wasn't after me.

That's a great picture I had wondered before why you had that expression on your face.

Passport X50 - beat out V1 in recent tests

Doesn't suffer from the multitude of false triggers that plagues V1

Cheaper than V1

Greater range than V1 on Ka and instant on POP Radar

Smaller than V1, so less obtrusive in the P Car

Available from local stores - walk in, buy X50, get protected today

Radar Busters.com says the world's best detector

Chris.

Actually, not true with regard to being the best. The Bel. RX65 is made by the same manufacturer, has more features and costs only slightly more.

Radar test.com has this to say about the V1:

Valentine and their V1 seem locked in a time warp. Even the owner manual reflects 1980s thinking, replete with wildly outdated statements such as “X-band [is] most common for moving and stationary [radar].” Huh? 47 of the 50 state highway patrols abandoned it years ago and the remaining three are dumping theirs as quickly as they wear out.

With an increasingly wide gap in the V1’s level of sophistication compared to modern designs--not to mention a minimalist feature set, quirky ergonomics, an exceptionally chatty nature and stiff price tag--the competition has clearly passed it by. Small wonder that Valentine’s market share continues to shrink, down to an estimated 0.6 percent and falling. Time for a new model, guys.
Sorry V1 fans - I guess they must have been paid off to say all that

Chris.

Actually, it's more like a dead heat - with the X50 still being the best bang for the buck.

Radar Test.com had this to say:

When we first tested the Passport 8500 we declared it the world's best radar detector. The latest 8500 X50's stellar performance, exceptional level of sophistication, extensive features and civilized manners combine to convince us that we called it right the first time. If the absence of voice alerts and the convenience of remote audio volume adjustment are of no importance, we'd say it's almost dead even with the BEL, slightly better on laser. But with the new BEL RX65 in town, we'd also venture to say that the Escort Passport 8500 X50 now has some company as the top-performing radar detector.
Chris.

I assume you're joking about running multiple detectors...or is this true? I didn't think you could run that many without one setting the others off.

It's a joke. I have the Passport SRX, however it's highly unlikely that multiple detectors would set each other off.

I just got back from driving to Islamprada (Upper FL Keys) - and the V1 was outstanding. On the way down, a sherriff's car spotted me as I came over the bridge that leads into Islamorada. I was in a pack of cars annd trucks, most actually going faster than me. However, he must've liked Lapis Blus as he hopped in his car, turned around (he was facing South) and followed me. I saw him, so I casually pulled over to the side of the road at The Shell Man, as if I was shopping. He pulled into the parking lot and slowly cruised past. I hopped back onto A1A and he did the same. The spped limit was 40 at that stretch of road, so I cruised at 35. He eventually gave up and passed me,, but 3 of his buddies - a Sherriff's pickup and two more cruisers - had gotten in behind me. I saw the "#" on the V1, as well as the backward arrow, so I continued to romp along at 10 mph UNder the limit. Eventually all 3 passed me, as did a Boxster who was tooling along at 10 mph over the limit, but they ignored him.

The V1 is the only way to go.
