Default Car died last night

Car basically started shutting off accessories one by one, I was about 1/4 mile from my house and she just completely shut off on me.

Jump start got me enough juice to put her in the parking deck before she shut off again. I'm guessing the alternator died?

Anyone got recommendations for a shop near Hoboken, NJ?

Come to think of it, the car has been sluggish starting the last few weeks. It doesn't "smell" like the alternator went bad, but even with a really weak battery, wouldn't the accessories have no problem coming on when the alternator kicks in?

sound like voltage regulator; which would require alternator being replaced...

Exact same thing happened on my 2001, was the alternator...

Your closest dealer may be Jack Daniels... just had my car there for the first time and they seemed very good.

There are several threads here and on RennTech regarding the replacing of the voltage regulator on an otherwise good alternator.

Porsche dealer will not do it, evidently, but these threads include Audi and other, generic part numbers for the regulator, and instructions on how to replace it.

I think I'm gonna dig around for a used one, I'm handy enough to change out an alternator.

Anyone got one to spare? 2001 996 6-Speed Cabrio
