Default Rumours of a Panamera GT continue to swirl

http://www.pistonheads.com/porsche/d...?storyId=13131

"Porsche could be planning a replacement for the 928 -- a GT coupé. Rumours about this car, which could be called the Panamera GT, first emerged in November 2005 following a speech by Porsche boss Wendelin Wiedeking (see link below) but have resurfaced, according to the US magazine Road and Track.

If it happens, it'll be a Panamera-based machine and won't happen before 2010. Based on the underpinnings in the design stage for the next rev of the Cayenne, the car would be front-engined and have either four or rear-wheel drive as options. According to speculation in report in Autocar last year, it'll be a shortened, two-door version of the Panamera -- although that begins to sound like a 911 with the engine at the front.

You might have thought that the 911 fulfilled this role more than adequately but, given the expansion of models planned by Stuttgart in recent years, maybe it's not so outlandish an idea."

The Panamera is a 2 door...like the 928...the Panamerica is a 4 door....That one is already green lighted and will be out in 2009...The Panamera is not green lit for production...

There has been a report of a patent application by Porsche for a mid engine car with either a V8 or flat 8 engine. There is speculation that it could be for a RSR competetion Caymen for GT1 ranks or it could be the replacement 998. Any how it seem that Porsche still wants to build performance sports cars. With the Panamerica it looks as if they are chasing after the AMG and M market. See thoes cars are so profitable for Mercedes and BMW that they want a piece of the pie. I have said before to me it would make more sense to make a performance sedan rather then an SUV. The real danger is that Porsche is a small company that does not change its cars fast and that BMW and Mercedes will do a change and leave the Panamerica rather dated. Probably the stakes that they are taking in VW is maybe to share some of its sedan parts to lower cost and to make changes quickly to keep up with the jones.
