Post 30,000 mile service

I the $800.00 + my local Porsche dealer charges for the 30,000 mile service really worth all that?
It does include changing the plugs but is that really necessary at 30,000? And I can change my own oil much cheaper than they charge. Car also has a BMC air filter. The service includes a lot of checking. Just curious as to what everyone thinks.

Question

Does anyone know the difficulty in changing their own plugs?

I totally service the car myself! It is very easy and although i am NOT a mechanic I play one in my garage! Oil changes are cake! Plugs a little more involved but fairly easy also. No need to spend the big bucks on the dealer "checking things over" Check things over yourself more than likely you WILL do a better job!!!!

Thanks for the feedback Dranon. You are probably right about me checking things as opposed to the dealer. Who knows what they actually do. And $800.00 is no small amount for the service. I have printed out the info from Loren's stie for oil changes and plug. Doesn't appear to be too difficult. Thanks again.t

While I wholeheartedly endorse doing things yourself, one thing you might want to look at is resale value. If you have a stamp from the dealer in your owner's manual it is worth a lot more than telling a prospective buyer that you did everything yourself...............even if you kept all the receipts.

I have to agree with Jim02C2. $800 is not alot of money, considering we are talking about 80k to 130k cars. I would be concerned about warranty and resale issues as well. I never skimp on sevicing my automobiles...Just my 2 cents worth..

There's a big difference between skimping on your car and getting gouged $800 by a dealer for oil, air filter and spark plugs. I mean really, there are other Porsche mechanics out there that are superb in shops other than the dealer. $800 at the dealer could be $300 somewhere else and a spare $500 for an upgrade.
