Default Cab top snagging/ripping question

Hi guys:

The interior lining section of the back my soft top seems to have ripped as a result of the closing mechanism, and now when the top closes it "catches" the corner of the mechanical roof for a split second. The roof closure is now delayed for a half a second while the soft top clings to the side, and then it ultimately closes after the soft top breaks free from being stuck on the corner. Hard to describe, but believe me that it will eventually damge the closing mechanism.

Anyone ever have this problem? The car is still under warranty, so I assume this is covered, correct? Will the dealer give me a new soft top? If he doesn't, should I demand a new one? Thanks for any experiences you can share.

so what part of the soft top is damaged? if it's just the headliner, the warranty won't cover for a new top. you should have the top readjusted asap to avoid further damage. porsche is very stingy when it comes to soft top full replacement. parts of the top is definately covered but the entire top may cost you some money if they can find you responsible some how.

DJ: It's hard to tell exactly what's causing the problem. There appears to be a rip in the headliner, and I think that the rip has somehow causd the flap section of the actual soft top to catdh the corner of the side when it closes. I think the connection is that the headliner rip has allowd the top to shift positions. I'm sorry I can't post pics, but the bottom line is that when the roof closes it catches (like a cowboy lasoing a horse) the side of the moving plastic/rubber piece for a split second every time, causing a brief tug of war between the cought corner and the closing mechanism. After a split second, the corner breaks free, but it breaks free violently, and I'm sure the closing mechanism will be destroyed over time.

I'll take it in this week. You're probably right-- they will try a band-aid solution. There's no way that I could have casued this, as it's not in a place anyone would touch and not damage anyone could even figure out how to inflict. I'll let you know what the dealer says. Thanks

I seem to remember this being discussed on this board before (I even seem to remember a TSB). Did you try searching for similar posts? Or maybe change the topic heading to "Cab top ripping issue" to see if that jogs anyone's memory?

Good luck!
