You probably know this already, but your car came standard with Brembos. If you get the floating (2 pc) rotors, I believe you can save a few pounds. Do you track your car alot? If not, I might suggest keeping the stock brakes. Lots of BMW, Corvette, and Viper owners have spent thousands to get brakes like the ones on your car right now...

Jason - There is a Brembo GT3 upgrade. It's a bit pricey, but they are bigger, lighter and better than stock. I urge you to track the car first and see what you think of the stock brakes though. My track is VERY tough on brakes and the 996 did great. Consider adding hi-temp fluid and track pads to improve track performance.

Here's a link to the GT3 brakes. Check out the Signature Brembo kit also on the same site.

I can understand how you might think your braking is sluggish compared to a motorcycle...

Assuming you don't already have them, race pads and ATE brake fluid might be sufficient to give you the feel you want.

I have the exact same experience....the pedal is softer and has more travel in the Carrera than my Boxster. Does anyone else have this issue?

As Grant and Jim suggested, try changing to a high temp fluid like ATE and using Pagid Orange pads. I think you'll see a big difference in the feel of the brakes. If the fronts are overheating at the track, you can also either add the GT3 cooling vanes or Cargraphic makes a kit.
