Engine Burn-in

Engine Burn-in
According to my dealer and other buyers, Porsche recommends an engine "burn-in" period on new 996s. My dealer says his Porsche technicians strongly disagree by saying that they engines are "hot tested" at the factory and do not need a "burn-in" period.
Rather, it's rumored that Porsche recommends the "burn-in" period to encourage new owners to get familiar with their car before they wrap it around a tree.
Any comments, or better, any truth to this out there?
Note: Porsche salesmen never tell me to take it easy on that showroom engine when I test drive.
Thanks, Kent

Which raises the question about the underlying health of the "demo". These cars are generally sold as new, and not discounted for the pre-break-in abuse of us enthusiastic customers. That's a part of the reason I generally prefer to order a car and wait. AS

Records bloopers? You mean when I have gas in the drivers seat and don't have dealer/factory seats warmers, Porsche is going to accuse me of installing my own, thus voiding the warranty on the seats?
