Default temp reading ...needle in 0 of 180..is this normal?

I have been checking my temp gauge and the needle is cutting the 0 in half...I bought the P last September and can't remember....but think that it normally sits between the 8 and the 0.

I have 3 radiators and not using the airco....cooling fluid level is where it is supposed to be......
Does it help when I have the shop flush my system and put new fluid in??

Any other suggestions?? it isn't that hot yet..so I am a little worried when summer comes along...OR is cutting the 0 in half with the needle normal??

normal...3.4L cars run there normally.....now you have the 3rd radioator? Oh...no you have a Tip. I dont think thats a 3rd radiator, I think thats the transmission cooler.....I could be wrong, but dont Tiptronics have a center cooler for the transmission? By the way what camera system are you using? C/N/H/M? I have a N system.....D2X....tons of lenses, and a M/medium format RZ67II.....just curious....

Ahhh so it is not a 3rd radiator...I wasa wondering why someone would have gone to the trouble of putting a 3rd one in!!...I will look into this...so temp is normal...good..makes me feel better...car was running great just wondering.

I am using Canon Ds1 MarkII....was waiting for the Mamiya ZD to come out, but heard it is tooo slow. I also have the AF645...but haven't used it in 3 years...my client don't care about film at all!! And I had a 14 feet high billboard up on Sunset..shot with the Canon....it was razor sharp...so I guess 16MP works good enough...I am researching for the new 30MP Phase One...because I always lose (and have to recreate) about 20% of the top or bottom of my pics....and this takes to much time!
I don't have that many lenses...one 24-70 and one 70-200 shoot everything with these 2

I changed from N to C because N didn't have (and still doesn't) enough MP to keep my clients happy..I love to shoot 35mm (nice, light and fast!) I shot a WW nikon campaign a month ago...for the D2Xs coming out in June or July..used a 70-200 2.8 lens ......very nice lens!! for studio shoots I feel the Nikons are a little to magenta...but for outside they are great!

The temp you describe sounds normal for city or stop and go driving, but not for continuous highway. The reason I mention this is because you brought up flushing your system. late last summer my water pump failed. After replacement and a flush of the system to get the stuff I had to put in there to make it home on, it took several weeks to get all the air out of the coolant system. The level would drop a little everytime I drove it hard and it took adding a few ounces everyday before I finally got the last quart in. Eventually the tmp gauge went back to where it had normally been...between the 1 and the 8.

1 and 8, do you mean 8 and 0?

Normal for these cars to run a water temp of 200 - 220F in city driving in whether you have 3 radiators (like you) or 2.

How about right of zero ever so slightly? That's how my car has been running in the city, on the highway or wherever. It never used to do this a few months back (yes, it's a tad warmer now outside, but it's still shy of 80 in the northeast). As I have the old style coolant cap (.00, I'm planning to top off the fluid and then replacing the old cap with the newer style cap (.01). If that fails, we'll see what the service tech has to say about it. Indeed, sometimes when the car is warmed up and I'm driving, I feel very warm air blowing under the dash onto my shins. Perhaps one of the coolant fan/fresh air guides from the front of the car to the back is misaligned?

My temp gauge sits to the right of the zero in Houston summertime (April through October) stop and go driving. I'm now going into my second summer of ownership and will let you know if anything untoward happens.

As an aside, my coolant level has bene slightly low in all of the 15 months that I've had the car. I've been hesitant to refill it because of what I've heard about needing a loan to buy Porsche coolant.

You can also check if the radiator opening is clogged with leaves etc. Use a vacuum to get anything in front of the radiator out. If there appears to be a lot of leaves, you may also want to remove the bumper as leaves can trap between radiator and condensor on the sides.

I didn't have much leaves (1 cup full) from both sides and after cleaning, the temp is between 8 and 0 like before.

Check your engine oil level also. Flat 6 uses oil to cool also.

Right of 0 is where mine sits. I think it is indicating around 200-205 F, but I'm boosted. I'm looking into things to do to bring the temp down 10-15 degrees

Typical coolant temperature when the needle is to the right of "0" in 180 is 215F+. My fan switch mod will drop it down to below 195F.
