Wings and Wheels drive this weekend in GA
Come join the Georgia Triumph Association on Saturday, July 12th for our summer run ?Wings and Wheels?. Following the success of last year?s ?Polar Bear Run? we cordially invite all the area Sports Car Clubs to join us as we travel to the Museum of Aviation, located at Robins Air Force Base, in Warner Robins Georgia.
The Museum of Aviation is the second largest museum in the United States Air Force and the fourth largest in the country. The museum features more than 90 aircraft and missiles dating from an early 1896 glider to the more modern day aircraft like the SR-71 Black Bird, and the U-2 Dragon Lady. The Robert L. Scott Vista Scope Theater, with a three-story screen, features two 30-minute films that are a must to see. Admission to the museum is free, a small fee is charged for the theater.
We will meet at 8:00 AM, at Denny?s at the Tanger Outlet Mall located near the Hampton/Locust Grove exit of I-75 (#212). Please arrive early if you want to eat at Denny?s. There is also a Burger King near the entrance to the Outlet Mall for drive-thru. Our departure time will be promptly at 8:45 AM. We will travel south on US 23 at a nice leisurely pace. We should arrive in Warner Robins at approximately 10:30 AM.
?PoMo?s? House of Bar-B-Que is our scheduled lunch stop. Here we will be parking our cars for display, as Warner Robins, Mayor Donald Walker will read a Proclamation proclaiming July 12th as Sports Car Day in Warner Robins. On hand will be CBS affiliate WMAZ Channel 13, taping footage of our cars and the reading of the Proclamation.
The Warner Robins Police Dept. will escort our motorcade to the Museum. Upon arrival and prior to parking we will be taking a photo of each car in front of a beautifully restored C-46 Curtis Commando cargo transporter. Photos will be available on the GTA?s website at http://www.gatriumph.com for your downloading.
A representative of the Museum will be on hand to greet us and offer a guided tour to those who would like a more informative and detailed tour. The Museum is situated on a 43-acre?s site with displays both inside and outside. The museum closes at 5:00 pm.
For those who want to quench the competitive fire that is raging in us all, we will head to the local go-cart track for some fun racing prior to heading home. Please plan to join us.
