Post Five 996TTs, Latigo Canyon and a Porsche Concours (w/Photos)

Oak, Matt, Mike (By Design owner), myself and one other guy (I can’t remember his name) hooked up this morning for some spirited driving in the Santa Monica mountains. All five of us drive modified 996TTs. It was in the 50s (very cold by So Cal standards), so our turbos were humming. Oak led the way and he selected Latigo Canyon. I had never driven Latigo before -- it is one hairy road -- one thin lane in each direction (thinner than your average lane) and a never-ending series of tightly connected hairpin turns. Oak maintained a very brisk pace and it was a genuinely intense drive. We didn’t encounter any traffic until the very end of the canyon, so we were able to maintain a rapid pace throughout.

After the Latigo Canyon drive, we meandered down Pacific Coast Highway and Kanan Dume Road to the Calimigos Ranch for a Porsche Concours sponsored by Rusnak Porsche and the Santa Barbara PCA Chapter. As we were attempted to find the parking lot, the organizers directed us into the show itself and, unexpectedly, we found ourselves participants in the Concours. Thus, at their direction, all five of us put our cars on display for an hour or so.

This is what its all about -- spirited driving and a Porsche Concours with fellow enthusiasts. It was a great Sunday morning!

This is a photo of us at the bottom of Latigo Canyon after an intense drive.

These are photos of us in the parking lot where we met.

This is a photo of us on display at the Concours.

This is a diagram of Latigo Canyon Road (the red star designates the road). We started at the top, above the red star, and drove to the bottom where Latigo meets Pacific Coast Highway (the far right of the map).

I’ve created a <a href="http://gallery.rennlist.com/gallery/LatigoCanyonDrivePorscheConcours" target="_blank">Photo Gallery</a> with some additional photos of our Sunday morning activities.

Many thanks to Oak, Matt, Mike and the guy with the yellow TT for a great morning. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Nice run Craig. Latigo is pretty hairy, and sometimes littered with police .......good thing you guys didn't run into any. I drove that cyn with a few friends in modded BMWs and a nice modded Volvo a few months back before the car went in for surgery and you're always on the edge of your seat and your nerves get hammered through there but it is an intensely gratifying experience once you've made it through. Nice move on getting into the concourse too.
