Post Track tires/wheels for C4S

I've been researching track tires for the C4S, just so I don't have to pay $$$$ to keep replacing the PZeros. I'm also looking at getting a separate set of rims. The problem is, for the 18X8 fronts and 18X11 rears, tire sizes seem to be limited to 225/40X18 and 295/30X18. Only Conti's and PZeros seem to come at those rear sizes.

Any thoughts? Suggestions on tires, or wheel tire combo's for the track? TIA.

You could always switch to a 17" track rim. There is a far greater selection of tires (especialy track tires) for a 17" rim as opposed to an 18" rim.

Just a thought.

Not so sure about decreasing wheel diameters, Sloth. There may be a problem with brake clearances. Going bigger is OK.

Heard fromn other posters that I may be able to get a slighlty smaller tire in the rear (285), so long as the outside diameter stays the same. May give me a little more oversteer (yahooooo). Thanks for the reply.

I just bought a set of Kumho's mounted on the Carrera II wheels from Wheel Enhancement. Same size as the '02 stock 18" which is a 285 in the rear. The Kumho's have a little thread so you can drive them to the track. They seem to perform quite well, but maybe not quite up to the level of the Hoosier. They are a lot cheaper than your P Zeros. The standard 996 wheel is a 17". Unless they put different brakes on the C4S (do they?) I would think you should have no problem. I am not 100% on that so I would look further before doing anything?

I know for my track car (951) I would rather have a 17" rim b/c of the greater selection of tires.

Either way, good luck on that.

Palting,

I have a set of track wheels and tires for the '02 C4S. You need to get wheels with the offset of a 993 widebody or 996 TT. I found a set of 993TT wheels which worked great. The front wheels will require a 5mm spacer. The rears fit no problem. The rears were supposed to be 18x10, but when measured, came up at more like 18x11. I ordered the tires (Kuhmo Ecsta V700's) without seeing the rims (285's), but a 305 will fit on this rim no problem. I am running 225's on the front. Feel free to e-mail me and we can discuss (mpgk3@yahoo.com).

Mike
