Two different methods to accomplish the same thing. Disapate heat and water when it rains.

Turbo or Supercharger? Both add power, but differently.

The sloted rotors are perfect for aggressive street driving and the cross drilled better for track and racing.

Good Luck

John,
I have seen $300K+ race cars with slotted rotors so they are not just for street cars. I believe that the GT3RS's run with Alcon slotted rotors.

The slots allow for out gassing and better wet weather braking. Cross drilled or rather "cast drilled" rotors are better for cooling, but have a tendency to crack.
For a car without proper cooling ducts I would stay with the factory rotors.

So Greg,

Did you answer his question? Or just correct me when I was not incorrect.

You say that you have seen $300,000 + race cars with slotted rotors, then in the very next sentance you say cross drilled are better for cooling. What?

Maybe I should have been a bit more clear. Slotted for aggressive street(as opposed to no slots) and cross drilled for track(which you clearly say are better for cooling, a much needed thing in racing).

I dont mean to start a fight here, I was just trying to answer a question and help out a brother.

Good Luck

I will clarify, since you didn't grasp my previous post.

What I am saying is that slotted rotors has advantages IF you add an outside cooling source. These advantages are lack of cracking and longevity. Go to a ALMS or Grand Am race and you will see what kind of rotors they run.

If you measure the cooling capacity of a slotted rotor vs a drilled one the drilled one will be better. But all race cars run some sort of cooling ducts.

For a 996 or 993 just use the rotors that came on the car, even if you race and you will be fine unless you are running very long races.

I will turn the question back to you then, when you posted "The sloted rotors are perfect for aggressive street driving and the cross drilled better for track and racing" What is your reasoning? How do you know you were correct?

I'll stick to my stock cross drilled rotors. And, both of you need to stop fighting and let's all try to do the Rodney thing and "Get Along". I also just traded in my car for a Cadillac, as someone encouraged me to do in this forum. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />
